The reception for Susan’s show “Farm to Market” will be held at NorthWind Fine Arts Gallery on Friday, July 5, from 5-7 pm, 11 Woodruff Street, Saranac Lake, NY.
My show “Farm to Table” might wear a more accurate title of “You’re Not the Boss of Me,” a childish reference to my resistance of the typical work that might come out of what was originally called “Farmer’s Market.”
When I sat down at my “thinking desk” to conceptualize the show all I could see were market umbrellas and people milling around. Fun, but just one chapter of a much longer story. Where does our food come from, how does it come to us, and what do we do with it? Is is beautiful? Is there hard work behind it, and winter snow, and cycles of birth and the other thing? We all hear that cooking is an art, but what about the cooking vessels and implements, and how it is presented to us? One by one, I took elements of all of those ideas and painted them into a visual story of past and present, from farm to table. Please join me for the opening and later we can have drinks under the not-painted umbrellas.
