As a plein air artist, creating a piece of art is a response to what I’m experiencing on location, and it’s a way to capture a story with a composition that is written not in words, but in whirls of color, in light and darkness, and sometimes in the wonderful contrasts and contradictions that occur in nature. But the story is the driving thing. As I’ve stood by the side of the road working, the owners of the land I’m recording at that moment often come to share their stories of the land that has been in their family for generations, or they tell me of the house they have loved for so many years, or the names of their cows, or the story of their farm. Sometimes they’ll find me in a gallery or a restaurant, and tell me the history of whatever it is of theirs that I’ve captured on canvas. These everyday histories captivate me, and resonate. I hear them when I go back to a location to paint again. I am honored to listen, to be given the gift of the telling. It is a privilege to paint this land, whether it’s the farms, the vast wilderness in all its natural glory, or a street scene,

In the cold, cold, Adirondack winter, I’m in my studio, and lately I’ve turned my attention to still life pieces. They are a way to continue to paint from life, Old objects or the things chosen for the compositions have their stories to tell too.

Thank you for visiting my website, and for your interest in my art. I hope it takes you places and perhaps tickles a fond memory.
